Barbarians of Parna
Barbarians: (Or, as some wit has
said, Barbars- because they cant remember the whole name.)
Barbarians are a hardy sort, and mature quickly for a non-High Orc/Ogre race. Their infant mortality rate is very high, with only two of every five children making it to the age of six. Barbarians are considered to have reached their majority by 14, although most are not allowed to journey out of tribal boundaries until they reach the Name Age of 18. The few Barbarians that are able to live to old age end up joining their ancestors at 50, although there are a very few that have lived as long as 60. (Perhaps 1/10% reach old age.)
TRIBES
Inari: The spider women.A tribe of fierce warrior women. Forced from their tribal home during the Pikelands Campaign, they found unlikely allies and years later had taken a new home in the mountains. Now, they present a threat to travelers, orcs, and dwarves.
Kona: One of the 2 largest tribes, before the campaign, the bearlike Kona were a force to be reckoned with for generations. However, trickery and assaults from the Naja and Kulpa during the campaign hurt the tribe greatly and left them with an uncertain future. The Kona totem is the bear.
Lupo: The wolf tribe has numbers to rival the Kona, but they are splintered into many small packs with their own alphas. Individually, the packs are dangerous, but united as a whole, the tribe is nearly unstoppable. But more and more threats are causing irreparable schisms in the tribe.
Naja: Wicked and cunning snakes, the Naja do not seek to be the strongest tribe, just the last. By timing their schemes well they have succeeded in driving the Inari from their home and have weakened the mighty Kona. What tribe is next to taste their venom?
Bubo: The wise owls of the Bubo seem to avoid conflict where ever possible and care not for the fate of the Pikelands. However, the Bubo are a secretive people, and have not revealed that they face a threat only the extinct Hiera had known about.
Pte: Not the smartest of the tribes, but seemingly possessing the strength of the buffalo they identify with. The Pte are also a selfish tribe and their actions since the campaign have left them with few allies. Not that they care.
Gomek: An odious and vicious tribe; even the Naja and Kulpa are cautious of them. The old crocodile tribe claims to be the oldest tribe on the continent. In their eyes, all of the Pikelands is their territory.
Kulpa: The bat tribe is the only nomadic tribe, wandering the Pikelands as they wish. Once the largest tribe in the land, their attacks on others, as well as their tendancies towards necromancy, have earned them many enemies.
Corvus: Not barbarians, but wild elves, with no recollection of where they came from. Now, along with the UrDavok, they wage a war against the Kulpa. Being an outsider among outsiders, however, has disadvantages. Their totem is the raven.
Hiera: The deceased eagle tribe. Over the years their numbers dwindled farther and farther till the tribe was nothing more than a few stragglers seeking refuge in other tribes. But what enemy brought about their downfall?
Eber: Stubborn, brutish and now mostly
extinct. The boar totem tribe pushed the Empire too far and the Empire pushed
back hard. Years later the Pikelands are still feeling the after effects of
the war they caused.
